Vincent Zegowitz

Vincent Zegowitz 02/05/1943 - 08/08/2025 Vincent Zegowitz, 82, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, August 8, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Marianne (McHale) Zegowitz, sons Kurt (Jacy), Eric (Ashley) and Mark (Jenn), five adoring grandchildren, Ruby, Lane, Tandi, Luke and Mabel, sister Mary Gault and brother Stephen Zegowitz and many loving members of his extended McHale family. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Zegowitz and Winola (Kay) Zegowitz and older brother Joseph (Jay) Zegowitz. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, teacher and friend and will be sadly missed. Vince, AKA “Geez” to his grandkids, was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Bethesda, MD. He was a graduate of St. Francis College in Loretto, PA. A proud United States Navy Vietnam Veteran, he was later stationed in Eleuthera, Bahamas where he and Marianne lived for two years. He then returned to school for a degree in Oceanography and began an esteemed career with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), settling down in Silver Spring, MD where he and Marianne raised their family and lived for over 30 years. Upon retiring they soon moved to their beloved waterfront home in Pasadena, MD where they lived for almost 20 years. He was a seasoned mariner, always surrounded by water with a love for boats big and small. He was a craftsman, an artist, an expert woodworker, baker and crab cake maker, a well-read historian with a stack of library books always within reach - a true tinkerer who could always be found either in his garage or down on the pier fixing or fiddling with something. He lived a life full of energy, adventure, intelligence, selflessness and compassion. He was just great fun to be around, with a joyful contagious energy, sharp sense of humor and intelligent wit. Vince never met a stranger and the door was always open to friends old and new. Known for his willingness to help others, Vince volunteered at Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. and Hospice of the Chesapeake, catering to those in need. He always focused on the good in life, bringing smiles during tough times. Vince possessed an unrivaled devotion toward his wife Marianne and family. We miss you so much Dad/Geez and will always love you. Thank you for setting such a great example of how to live life to the fullest and thank you for a lifetime of wonderful memories and experiences. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the Crooked Crab Brewing Company in Odenton, MD from 2:00-5:00 pm.
