Vance M Holley

On Saturday, March 20, 2021, Vance Maitland Holley, loving husband and father of six passed away at the age of 80. Vance was born on March 18, 1941 in Charleston, West Virginia to Velda Holley Wooten Simpson and Orrie Edwards. Vance served 3 years in the US Air Force before working as a carrier for the US Postal Service. While working for the USPS he decided to go back to school. He graduated from California State Polytechnic University in 1972 and went on to work with the city of San Bernardino's Redevelopment Agency in California. Later Vance joined Lockheed Martin where he had a 29-year career in HR, including VP of EEOC, before retiring. Vance loved playing golf and traveling with his golf buddies. He and his golf buddies remained good friends even after he was no longer able to play. Vance had an infectious, hearty laugh and loved to start a vigorous conversation with anyone, especially his family. He could be seen wearing whatever color sunglasses he chose for that day, which added to the mystique of (what I think was) his self-proclaimed nickname, Holleywood Holley. He loved California, his home away from home. And as someone once described Vance, he was a “larger than life” character. Vance is preceded in death by his parents, Velda and Orie, his brothers Levi Wooten, Jr., Martin Hughes, Rodney Edwards and sister Mildred Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Holley, his blended family of children; Kathy (Bennie) Umstead, Terri (Mike) Love, Jacquelyn Hilliard, Donald (Liezl) Parker, Ronald (Sofiya) Parker and Victoria Holley. Grandchildren - Jessica (Jamil) Amous, Bryan (Aiysha) Brown, Brittany (Rechab) Gray, Corey (Erika) Love, Jalen Parker, Ciara Parker, Taylor Love, Erin Parker, Sydney Parker, Justin Parker, Ronald Parker Jr, Lia Parker, Maya Rumpel, Sebastian Holley and Lily Parker. Great grandchildren - Aaron, Zipporah, Jonathan and Hadassah Gray, Ava and Quinn Brown and Jordyn Love. Sisters and brothers, Anna Francine Callahan-Hackler, Myra (Leo) Simpson, Denise Wooten Watson, Gregory (Tonya) Edwards, Mark (Shirley) Simpson and Faith Simpson. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, a longtime friend of over 50 years, Richard Cook, along with many wonderful, dear friends, who are too numerous to list. We will all miss him dearly as he was the patriarch and glue that held family and friends together across many generations.
