Robert Francis Graulich

On the evening of Wednesday, September 15, 2021, Robert (Bob) Graulich joined his dearly departed wife, Ruby, in the peaceful hereafter. Bob who was father, grandfather, great-grandfather and fun friend to many, passed away at the age of 89. He was born on September 20, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York to George A. Graulich and Katherine J. (Rothhaupt) Graulich. He attended Catholic parochial school at St. Aloysius in Ridgewood, New York with his friend, George Austen, who says Bob was always a prankster. He honed his drawing and drafting skills in high school at the School of Industrial Art in Manhattan. Bob met Ruby in 1952 when he was a US Army Corporal stationed in the village of Pusan during the Korean War. They married on March 2, 1954 and resided in Korea for one year before traveling to the US and settling in Brooklyn, NY where Bob studied architecture at the Pratt Institute. Bob’s friends refer to him as the “jokester” and “life of the party”. He was known for his generosity, great sense of humor, and meticulous work ethic. In fact, Bob was proud of his military and government service having worked as an architect and project manager for the District of Columbia and the Federal government. Notable projects involved design and construction of reviewing stands for Presidential Inaugural parades and renovations in the White House. Bob was a talented singer; in fact, he recorded four songs in Crooner style, participated in the Church choir and enjoyed listening to classical and jazz. He enjoyed dancing, watching Korean soap operas, and breakfast dates at Panera Bread with Ruby. Spending time with his children and grandchildren brought him great joy. Bob relished the time he spent with the “Boys” on fishing excursions, picking crabs with family and friends, and embarking on impromptu road trips. He joins his older brothers Raymond, Kenneth and George, cousin Donald Faber, and many friends including Frank Fields, Joe Stonestreet, Stan Morrow in the afterlife. Bob is survived in loving memory by his children, Kim & Mike Hankey and Robert Graulich II, five grandchildren—Josephine, Benjamin, Melissa, Krista and Taylor, and multiple great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (7436 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Glen Burnie, MD 21061) followed by interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park (7215 Ritchie Highway Glen Burnie, MD 21061). Family and friends are invited to hospitality at VFW Post 160 (2597 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21061) after interment. In lieu of flowers, Bob requested donations in memory of his precious wife, Ruby Graulich. Specifically, gifts may be directed to support the Brain Attack Center in the Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
