Patrick Kevin Mayhew

Patrick Kevin Mayhew, 1952-2026 Patrick Kevin Mayhew transitioned into the cosmos on April 26, 2026, after a courageous 15-month battle with leukemia. Born at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC on September 27, 1952, he was a man who lived by his own definition. He was a strong LGBTQIA+ mentor, an artist, a chef, and lover of all things beautiful. Life would lead him on a grand adventure, from Washington, DC, taking him to Miami, San Francisco, Taos, NM, the Shenandoah Valley, Outer Banks, NC, and finally, Annapolis, MD. Venturing to Miami with his mother and sisters and growing up in an era of free love, exposed him to many movements that would ultimately change his life. Patrick had many fond, and extremely fun memories of his time in South Florida. From there he would meet a man and travel his way to San Francisco where he found himself in the center of a movement that would remain with him for life: Gay Rights are Equal Rights. In San Francisco, he met his partner John, with whom he spent 14 years. This would take him on to Taos, where his art career flourished. Because of the natural surroundings and art culture, his art evolved as he documented the beauty of the world as only he saw it. After his years in Taos, he returned to the East Coast, and the Shenandoah Valley to be closer to his mother and other family members. In the “Valley” he was a lover of antiquing/thrifting and owned a vintage store specializing in antiques and mid-century modern design, where he would sell his finds. In the early 2000s, he moved to the Outer Banks and became his mother’s caregiver. As an excellent chef, he ensured she had nutritious meals every day. Shortly before moving to Annapolis, Patrick’s work was featured in a highly successful show. As a result, many Washington-area residents enjoy his art in their homes every day. Patrick passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his brother, Anthony (Tony), three sisters, Eileen, Kathleen and Helene, niece, Loretta, nephew, Addam, grand-nephew Johnathan, dear friend, Kitt, from his time in grade school, and his beloved dog, Paco. Patrick was predeceased by his parents Patricia Maier and Anthony Mayhew and older brother Michael. He leaves his brother and sisters, his Uncles Donnie and Adam, and a large family of cousins, nephews, nieces, and close friends he considered family. A celebration of his life will be held in June 2026. Though Patrick was a lover of anything floral, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: SMYAL (youth services), or Whitman Walker Medical Clinic DC.
