Nathaniel T. Morris

Nathaniel Morris, son of the late Talbot Morris and Louise Fararre, was born in Cambridge, Maryland September 23, 1938. Surrounded by his loving and devoted family, he departed this life on June 15, 2018 at his home in Baltimore, Maryland. Losing his mother at an early age, he was raised by Charles and Lear Jones of Vienna, Maryland. He attended Vienna Elementary School and graduated from Maces Lane High School, Cambridge, Maryland. Upon graduation he was employed at Campbell Soup in Salisbury, Maryland. In 1958 he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and married his high school sweetheart Betty Woolford. They have been married 58 years. He attended the Opportunity Industrialization Center in Philadelphia. He was employed at The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Blum Store as an elevator operator, Philadelphia Public Schools as a teaching assistant, was a truck driver for D. E. Duffey and Sons Oil Company, worked at General Motors and the United States Post Office. Upon moving the family to Baltimore in 1971, he was employed at General Electric, then at Chesapeake Oil Company as a truck driver and technician. He received the Serviceman of the Year Award from the Maryland Oil Heat Managers for rescuing a family from a fire. “This award is made to the service technician who not only achieves an excellent record at his primary job, but who also goes well beyond his normal duties in exceptional service to the community.” He also received the Governor, State and City recognition for good Citizenship. In 1975 he was awarded a certificate from The Boy Scouts of America in recognition of his service. In 1979 he attended the Mergenthaler Adult Center and completed the prescribed course in air conditioning and refrigeration. In 1988 he retired from Chesapeake Oil Company and became self-employed as an Independent HCR Contractor for the United States Postal Service. He continued his business until he became too ill in November, 2017. He was twice awarded the Eagle Spirit Award for excellent service. He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Vienna, Maryland; and Tioga United Methodist Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he was a boy scout leader. He joined Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Baltimore, Maryland in 1978 and remained a faithful and active member, serving as a trustee and usher. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Betty Woolford Morris, daughters: Daphne M. Morris, Las Vegas, Nevada, Deanna E. Morris, (Steven Keller), New York, New York; sisters: Elaine Camper, New Castle, Delaware, Jeanette Fisher, Bear, Delaware, and Ruth Cornish, Cambridge, Maryland; grandchildren: Tiesha, Vernon (Shantell), Nicholas, Brandon (Andrea), Devin, Megan, Brooke; great grandchildren: Tiyel, Donnie, Danny, Taylor, Naudia, Brianna, Cassidy, Jaylen, Nicholas, Jordyn, Jayden, Bryson, and Sutton; also other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: sons: Daryl N. Morris and Dwayne R. Morris; sister: Daisy M. Davis and brother: James Camper.
