Jeanne Mary Smallwood

Jeanne Smallwood, 82 of Glen Burnie, passed away in the afternoon of October 15, 2024 from a reoccurrence of lung cancer. Jeanne and her twin sister Joanne were born September 22, 1942 to parents Elmer and missing Evelyn Schmale of Ferndale. Jeanne attended Glen Burnie High School and worked at Maryland National Bank. Jeanne loved to dance and occasionally appeared on the Buddy Dean Show, a local teen dance show. At the age of 20, Jeanne married and had her first daughter in 1963. Her second daughter was born in 1965. She divorced her first husband when she was 29 and remarried. This marriage produced her third and last child, daughter number 3 born in 1973. Jeanne was a talented floral designer and worked part time at Saunders Florist. Jeanne loved to work with silk flowers. In addition to her work at the Florist, she designed flowers for several weddings. After her work at the florist came to an end, Jeanne started a small cleaning business. This was where she excelled. Jeanne left the homes and doctors’ offices that she cleaned in immaculate condition, going above and beyond what was expected. You truly could eat off the floors. Jeanne was a social butterfly and in her later years enjoyed bowling, shopping and going out to dinner with friends. She never lost her love for dancing, she often attended fundraisers, such as bull and oyster roasts organized by local clubs. Many of these “dances” as she referred to them, featured live, local bands that played music from the 50’s. 60’s and 70’s, Jeanne’s favorite music to dance to. Jeanne was a beautiful woman, a blue eyed blonde with a sense of style. Attending the fundraisers afforded her the chance to show off that sense of style. She dressed to impress. It was hard not to notice her. Along with her fashion sense she had a wonderful sense of humor and often had friends laughing. Unfortunately, Jeanne developed dementia at the end of her life. But even then, she continued to make the staff at her assisted living facility laugh. No doubt she still has everyone laughing. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Evelyn Schmale and twin sister Joanne Cook, along with grandsons Darien Wilson and Brady Harman. She is survived by her daughters Tracie Boush, Terri Harman and Tammy Olvera. granddaughters Brittani Reid, Cierra Colette and Brynn Olvera, Grandsons Cody Little and Reece Olvera and great-granddaughters Cassie and Audrie Reid.
