Francis Alexander Babbs

Francis “Frank” Alexander Babbs, of Baltimore, MD, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, just one day shy of his 90th birthday. He was surrounded by his wife of sixty years, Bonnie, and his granddaughter, Cassandra. Born June 10, 1935, in Indianapolis, IN, to Adeline and Richard Babbs, Frank was the third of four children. After being orphaned, he and his youngest sister were raised by Frank and Bertha Forrester. Frank served thirteen years in the U.S. Army, including combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. Trained as a Farsi linguist, he later worked as a translator for the NSA, where he helped develop a testing program for future translators. After his military service, he transitioned into the electronics field and modernized the technical training program at a tech school where he had been a student. His daughter Katherine later enrolled in that program, which became the foundation for her current business. In 1986, Frank was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and joined Bonnie in the door-to-door work. He was known for his generous heart, quick wit, and deep love for his spiritual family. He had a lifelong passion for classical music and enjoyed singing. His family fondly remembers the sense of wonder he inspired in them about the universe, the sea, thunderstorms, all creatures great and small, and his endless fascination with math and science. His daughters recall him as the “fun” dad who brought home doughnuts and watched cartoons with them every weekend. He was the king of dad jokes, often slipping in a bit of dark humor, and teaching his family how to use laughter to cope during hard times. His warmth, wit, and boundless curiosity will be deeply missed. Frank is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters Katherine (Lawrence) and Rebecca (Michael); grandchildren Christina, Breann, Cassandra, Cassidy, Jacob, and Lucas; and great-grandchildren Ryland, Avery, Olivia, Finnegan, Sawyer, and Lily. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on July 12, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Zoom ID 86927600485, passcode 901901 A private gathering for the immediate family will follow.
