Elizabeth Robertson

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Elizabeth Grover Robertson. Mom passed on May 14, 2021 at her current home in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Mom was born on September 12, 1932 to Margaret Isabelle Fletcher (nee Folks) and Gerald David Fletcher in Baltimore City. She was married on February 8, 1950 to Walter Lee Robertson, Jr. During her lifetime mom was a dedicated and loving mother to her five children. Always putting them before herself, always allowing them to pursue their interests with encouragement and always there when those endeavors sometimes fell flat. Mom enjoyed sipping beer from a coffee mug while eating crabs. She likes to fish using a bamboo pole at Ft. Smallwood Park and crabbing at Wagner’s Point. She could cook a feast for the multitude out of just a few items. A visit to see her would always start with the opening of the fridge for a smidgen of this or a dribble of that. Like her fridge, her door was always open, as was her heart. She taught all her children that one of the most important things in life was graduation; she knew that little piece of paper would open otherwise closed doors to employment and opportunity for success. Her smile could brighten any room and her laughter reminded those around her of a little girl giggling with joy. She has a great sense of humor. Mom also knew when the visit was over it was time to “get out,” and she was not afraid to say so. During her lifetime she worked at Carr Lowrey Glass Company, meat cutter at the neighborhood market, Montgomery Wards in the accounting department, and phone assistant at the Baltimore Telephone Book Company. She also was mom, nurse, confidant, consultant, negotiator, dryer of tears, and kisser of boo-boos for not only her children, but also for all the neighborhood children who spent hours playing in the yard. She is preceded in her death by her parents, Margaret and Gerald Fletcher; her brother, Korean War Veteran, Pete Fletcher; and her husband of 68 years, Walter L. Robertson, Jr. She is survived by her sons and daughters: Walter L. Robertson, III and Deborah; Michael L. Robertson and Diane; Elizabeth M. Robertson and Jesus; Gerald L. Robertson and Vicki; and Cheryl L. Robertson and Carl; as well as many, many blessings of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom will be missed by everyone who ever had the awesome opportunity to meet her. She carried herself with dignity and respect. Always striving to do the right thing. She is a role model for all. Graveside services will be held at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Boulevard on May 29, 2021 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choice. Some of those which Mom liked are SPCA and the American Cancer Society.
