Charlotte Jean Thomas

Charlotte Jean (South) Thomas was born on October 14, 1947 To Homer and Charlotte (Hall) South and passed away on January 22, 2021. She leaves behind her brothers Chris and Philip South and sister Myrna Ashley. She grew up in Baltimore Maryland and graduated from Patterson High School in 1966. Jean (as she was known to everyone) was a kind and caring woman with a heart of gold. On May 30, 1969 she married John Thomas, Sr. and later had her four children Rosa Charlotte (Thomas) Ferres, Alicia Carol Thomas (May 10, 1974 – July 10, 1974), John Ellis Thomas, Jr, and Shawna Adrianne Thomas. Her heart grew with the additions of their children’s friends that she considered her own children through the years, Nikki “Penny” Edwards and Jen Martin. Their marriage ended after 28 years but the love of the family they created grew as the family grew with the additions of their children’s significant others Glenn David Ferres, Echo Lynn Clayton and Jason Lee Bailey. She always considered John’s first wife Hillary (Clark) Styer-Zucco her daughter even after John’s first marriage ended. She just added Hillary’s Son Ethan and Husband Gus Zucco to her list of family. She mourned the loss of Roy Charles Shinaberry when he suddenly passed away, but he remained in her heart. As years passed, she was blessed with grandchildren Tristen Marie Ferres, Alicia Dunlap Styer, Jasmine May Thomas, David Glenn Ferres, Raven Nicole (Thomas) Nellenback, Colby Ellis Thomas, Hunter Gerald Thomas, and Trinity Elaine Shinaberry. Jean was blessed to have two great grandchildren Payton Rose Shortt and Aubree Lynn Jones. Jean grew up in a Baptist home and her love for the church and her faith were always strong. She would share with you that it was okay to have your moments of anger with God as she shared her story of losing a child, but never lost her faith. She lived a life full of love that sustained her during her times of sorrow. Jean loved to sing and as a young lady/adult and could be found singing with the choir, but always loved music. She was mostly a homemaker but did work in retail at times throughout her life. Jean naturally gained the love of sewing from her mother and enjoyed coming up with new craft creations with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren through the years. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 7:00 pm. The address for Bethel Baptist Church is 416 Wellham Ave., Glen Burnie, MD. The church will be open at 6:30.
