William Moore

William(Billy)Moore, 61, of Glen Burnie, Md., passed away July 3rd, 2018 from complications due to a lifelong struggle with alcoholism and tobacco use, which resulted in heart and lung disease. His family and friends know that he has found a peace and serenity that he did not find while walking this earth. He has been called home. We will miss our brother and friend but take comfort knowing he is in a better place. Billy was born in Kenmore, NY., August 12, 1956 to John R. and Alice A. Moore. His family moved to Severna Park, Md. In 1965. He attended Folger McKinsey Elementary School and Severna Park Junior High School. He, his siblings and the neighborhood boys were all well known in their community for their continuous shenanigans on the rivers and creeks, in the woods, at the school yard, the pools and on the ball fields! He participated in the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association, locally known as “The Green Hornets”, playing football, lacrosse and wrestling. He was a member of the Cape Arthur and North Cape Arthur Swim Teams. From the 8th-11th Grades he attended Wroxeter in Arnold, Md. (1970-1974) and then his 12th Grade year at Blue Ridge School, a private all boys boarding school in Saint George, Va. (1974-1975). He excelled at football, lacrosse and wrestling in High School achieving national recognition for both wrestling and lacrosse while being a very good student. He continued his education at the University of Richmond on scholarship as a wrestler, attended Anne Arundel Community College, played box lacrosse and finished at the University of Maryland in 1981 where he received a BS in Accounting. He used his degree working as Comptroller at Indian Creek School, Crownsville, Md. Billy, driven by a youthful and exuberant passion for all things athletic, will be remembered with love and awe for the way he competed. Once his playing days were over he coached both wrestling and lacrosse for Anne Arundel County youth and high school athletes. He remained active himself for many years enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, water and snow skiing, rock climbing, repelling, camping and spelunking to name a few. Billy loved animals especially dogs and one was always a part of his life whether it was his or not. Although he may have travelled and stayed short times in other places and had a variety of jobs after he left Indian Creek School, he always considered Anne Arundel County, especially the Severna Park, Arnold and Annapolis area as home. He was preceded in death by his father, John R. Moore and his mother, Alice A. Michaels. He is survived by his brother, Terry (Dawn) Moore of Greenleaf, Id., his twin, Jim (Donna) Moore of Denton, Md., sister, Judi (John) Ludwig of St Augustine, Fl., and brother, Phillip Moore of Malibu, Ca.. Also surviving Billy are his cousins, Gordon, Michael, John and Margaret Law, his many nieces and nephews, Tiffany Gratteau, Tyler (Elizabeth) Moore, Toby (Maya) Moore, Allyson Moore, Ryan Moore, Teresa (Christopher) Hernandez, Stephanie Ludwig, Melissa Ludwig, William (Shelly) Ludwig, Christopher Ludwig and Kyle Ludwig, great nephews and neice, Tyler Gratteau , Theo Moore, Michael Hernandez and Jasmine Ludwig. In addition he is survived by his special friend, Anne C. Chambers of Denton, Md. who helped him navigate life from is High School days on, her son, Kenneth Chambers of Provo, Ut., and the Coleman Family. Billy had many good, loyal friends who, on many occasions reached out to him with love and kindness. Our family would like to give special thanks to Billy’s lifelong friends, Don Yeatman and Steve Hill both of Arnold , Md. for their dedication, loyalty and love that they unconditionally gave Billy.
