Obituary for Stephen Paul Gollegly – 11/20/17 Stephen (Steve) Paul Gollegly, 58 of Baltimore, MD passed away on November 20 at his home surrounded by loving family. Steve was born in Syracuse, NY on September 25, 1959. He is survived by six siblings who he loved dearly, Mary Elizabeth (Jerry) D’Eredita, Venice, FL, James (Kathleen) Gollegly, Syracuse, NY, Louise (Marie) Tyo, Potsdam, NY, Carolyn Hoeh, Marcellus, NY, Maureen Jenners, Central Square, NY and Patrick Gollegly, Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Elizabeth Marsh Gollegly (1991) and his father, Daniel Lyman Gollegly (1995). A strong civic leader who always had the best interests of his peers in mind, Steve was Class President and Valedictorian for the Class of 1977 at Henninger High School, Syracuse NY. He earned a BA in Communication in 1981 from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, studied Theology in the Formation Program of Ordained Ministry from 1983-1986 at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and in 1989 earned his Masters of Social Work at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Celebrating his 20th year this past April at the Maryland Family Network, Inc. (formerly Friends of the Family, Inc.), Steve was a Management Information Systems Administrator where he successfully developed policy for computer administration, implemented a new state-wide data management system and tracked, coordinated, and analyzed data on more than 8300 Maryland families for 31 sites across the state. From 1992-1997 he was the Clinical Director of the Harundale Youth and Family Service Center, Inc. in Glen Burnie, MD where he developed their computerized evaluation program and obtained more than $300,000 in grant funding. Throughout his career, Steve had a strong passion for helping families, working at the Hope House in Crownsville, MD as a Family Specialist from 1988 – 1991 and while earning his Masters degree in the late 1980s, he worked as an intern on the AIDS/HIV ward at Johns Hopkins Hospital where he counseled several family members of AIDS patients who were dealing with their loss and grief. Steve’s warm and compassionate heart embraced not only his immediate family as a loving son, brother, and uncle, he also evoked this same spirit during his career helping families heal from trauma and loss. Further, Steve was an avid social justice advocate for the LGBTQ community. He was an active member of the Human Rights Campaign and, in 2005, he participated in an AIDS/HIV fundraiser, joining fellow bikers in a 410-mile long bike ride from Delaware to Baltimore. His family, friends, and colleagues will remember Steve for his intelligence, his fun-filled and clever wittiness and his hilarious impersonations of a variety of Hollywood and Broadway stars. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, James St. Syracuse on Thursday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryland Family Network, Inc. 1001 Eastern Ave. Baltimore, MD 21202.
