S. Keith McPhail

S. Keith McPhail was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Annabelle LaBerge and Stewart McPhail, on October 26, 1936. He was the oldest of five children. The McPhail family moved to Windsor, Ontario, Canada, in 1950. Keith attended J. C. Patterson Collegiate Institute, St. Clair College, the University of Windsor, and Vanderbilt University. At the age of 21, he married his childhood sweetheart Patricia Johns. Keith began working in the water and sewage treatment field in the 70’s. He worked in the city of Windsor until 1980. During that time Keith and Patricia raised their four children in Lasele, Ontario. In 1980, Patricia, Keith, and their youngest daughter Colleen moved to Annapolis, MD. Keith worked for the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works in the Water Treatment field. In 1982 he was hired by the city of Annapolis as the superintendent of public works. He worked there until his retirement in 2000. He and Patricia attended daily mass, and their devotion took them to Fátima and Lourdes on two separate trips. He was bathed in the water of Lourdes. Keith became a Knight of Columbus at age 18, eventually becoming a fourth degree Knight. He spent countless time volunteering with the Knights, St. Vincent De Paul Society and many other charities. Keith and Patricia owned several houses over the years in Delray Beach, Florida, where they both moved to during retirement. They both attended St. Vincent Ferrer Church and participated in many activities including daily mass. In 2011, Keith was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow. With Patricia at his side, they found the best oncologists, including Dr. Felix Rodrigues and at the University of Miami, Dr. James Hoffman. Keith received treatment at the Sylvester Cancer Clinic in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Keith fought the battle hard for over 7 years, but eventually the cancer won. Keith’s devotion to our blessed Mother Mary and our Lord, kept his spirits up over the years. Keith was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He died peacefully at his daughter Colleen’s home in Annapolis, with his beloved wife, daughter, and grandchildren at his side. The family wishes to thank Chesapeake Hospice Care, for their loving nurse, Joan, Social Worker, Alexia and the other people who answered our calls. We Thank Father Doud, from St. Mary’s for his spiritual devotion, mass, and sacrament of the sick. In DelRay beach we also thank Father Danis Ridore, Monsignor Tom, Father Jay and the sisters. Keith is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia; His sons Philip and Michael; his daughters Christine and Colleen; His sisters Judy and Bonnie, preceded by his brothers Reid and Donald; And his grandchildren Terry, Philip, Candice, Brendan, Connor and Cammie. Keith was known by Jesus when he entered the kingdom of God.
