Obituary for Richard Eugene Waits Richard Eugene Waits, age 85, of Pasadena, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2025, in the home he built, where he and his family shared 52 wonderful years together. Born on September 25, 1940, in Chillicothe, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ida Maxine Rush and Edward Eugene Waits, and the stepson of the late Edison Clare “Rusty” Rush. Dick is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Nancy Waits; two loving daughters, Cindy Wengert and her husband Timothy, and Debbie Gilberto and her husband Edward; and his cherished grandchildren, Billy Ramsey and his wife Cambryn, Andrew Gilberto, Ryan Wengert, Matthew Gilberto and his wife Alexis, and great grandson Waylon. He is also survived by his siblings Nancy Sue Hall, Victoria Muzzco, and Edison Rush. A Master Carpenter, Dick worked for Conrad Protzmen for many years and was known for his incredible skill — he could build or fix just about anything. He proudly served six years in the United States Navy as a Petty Office First Class, spending much of his service aboard the USS Triton nuclear submarine. Dick was an active and dedicated member of the Magothy Forge Community for over 52 years, serving in various capacities and contributing to its growth and spirit. He was also a longtime member of the Cedar Room /Associates, where he made lifelong friendships and shared countless good times. Known for his hardworking nature, honesty and the love he had for his entire extended family. Dick loved working in his workshop and spending time outdoors. One of his greatest joys was fishing with his grandchildren and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In true Dick fashion, we’ll celebrate his life the way he lived it — surrounded by good company, laughter, and good food. Please join us for a Celebration of Life in his honor.
