Rebecca Jo Sackett

Rebecca Jo ‘Becky’ Sackett, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, died at the age of 79 in the early hours of Saturday January 27 after a long and tenacious battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, (a rare condition that causes damage to nerve cells in areas of the brain.) Becky was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia to Rose and Randy Lambert then migrated with her parents and sister Missy to Pennsylvania and Indiana where at the age of 21 she met David Sackett at a Valentine’s Day dance. David joined the Air Force, they married on Christmas Day in 1966 and were together ever since. The adventures of military life took them and their three sons Don, Doug and Dan around the world from Texas to Japan, Italy, and California, finally settling and retiring in Glen Burnie, MD. It is hard to describe Becky without using the words resilient, determined, creative, kind, generous and loving. She was an artist who knew no bounds. She acted in community theater. She painted Christmas scenes on picture windows. She designed and painted Christmas cards, birthday cards, and thank you cards. And if you got one, you saved it. Her passion for Van Gogh led her to reproduce his work on canvas. When she ran out of canvas, she painted bricks and rocks, and decorated furniture with flowers. She created her art to bring color and joy to life. Becky was loved, respected and committed to the AA community. And every Sunday, she was proud to sing as a tenor in the choir at her church. She did all this because she was a fighter, summoning a tremendous strength of will to persevere despite coping with chronic and debilitating illness. David dedicated himself to her care as her illness progressed, enabling her to be home and surrounded by loved ones and he was at her side when she died. Becky was preceded in death by her father and mother, Randolph and Rose Lambert. She leaves behind her husband, David R. Sackett, her sibling Missy (Lambert) Stewart (Ron Stewart) of Portland, OR, and her children, the Very Rev. Donald and Paulette (Alderink) Sackett of Breckenridge, TX, Daniel and Heather (Kelso) Sackett of Glen Burnie, MD, and Douglas and Maureen (Smith) Sackett of Glen Burnie, MD, as well as her 15 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. A Memorial Service for Becky will be held at Harundale Presbyterian Church in Glen Burnie, MD, on March 23, 2024, at 11a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life reception.
