Phyllis Bradley Jackson

"Phyllis Courtney Bradley Jackson of Odenton, Maryland passed into life eternal January 21, 2023, with her family by her side. Phyllis was born in Emporia, Virginia on September 22, 1955, to the late Percy Courtney Bradley and Johnnie Davis Bradley. Phyllis’ family, which also included her two older sisters, Rose Bradley Parker (Littleton) and Deborah Bradley Brown (Charles) moved to Hampton, Virginia prior to Phyllis’ birth. She attended St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in her youth, where she was confirmed and would also later marry. Phyllis attended public school in Hampton and graduated from Bethel High School. She then attended Virginia State University where she earned a degree in Physical Education. Later in her career, she also obtained a graduate degree in Special Education at California State University. On June 24, 1978, Phyllis married Harry Theopholis Jackson. The couple was blessed with two children, Christopher and Janis. Harry, who was an officer in the United States Army, and the young family lived in several states across the country, spending most of their time in California. While in California, Phyllis became a Special Education teacher. She was later promoted to the position of Bridge Coordinator where she used her skills in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans to assist teachers within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Phyllis and her husband retired on June 10, 2019, and the family moved to Odenton, Maryland. Phyllis was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She loved to sing, sketch, write, read, watch British comedy shows and scary movies with her daughter. She was skilled in imitating foreign accents, and she loved to travel with her daughter, Janis. She especially enjoyed traveling to the United Kingdom on trips with her daughter and her sister, Rose. Phyllis also cultivated a keen interest in genealogy, relentlessly researching and piecing together her family tree. Phyllis will be remembered for her quiet and calm nature, her affability, her love of little dogs, and her caring and supportive demeanor as a wife, mother, sister, friend, teacher and colleague. Phyllis was a wonderful person who will be deeply missed. "
