Genevieve Patricia Sewchand

With deep but full hearts, the Sewchands have laid to rest their angel, Genevieve (Genny) Patricia Sewchand. Genny passed peacefully at home on June 14, 2023. Her kids watched her take her last breaths. She is now in the caring hands of the Lord. Genny is lovingly and adoringly cherished by her husband of 55 years, Wilfred; children, Franz, Renée, and Matthew; daughter-in-law, Laura; and beloved grandchildren, Sierra and Aidan. Genny also is lovingly remembered by her siblings and their spouses: Joseph (Bebe) and Rosanna; Bobby and Garilyn; Abelard; Sharon and Kit; Sean and Persis; Joan; Margaret and Patrick; Patrick and Vi; and Brian and Sarah. She is predeceased by her son, Sean; father, Joseph; mother, Enid; stepmother, Jean; niece, Nadira; nephew, Mark; brothers-in-law, Jim and Kenneth; and sister-in-law, Lucy. The names of additional family and friends whose lives Genny touched and who remember her fondly are too numerous to list. Genny was born in Guyana, South America on September 7, 1947. Her siblings brought her solace and kinship during her youth. On September 9, 1967, she married Wilfred, and shortly thereafter, moved to Leeds, England. When Genny and Wilfred moved to Baltimore, her joyous life truly began. Genny was born to be a mother, and a remarkable mother she was, for which her children and grandchildren are beyond blessed. She was not just soccer mom; she was swimming mom, basketball mom, tennis mom, baseball mom, softball mom. She was a presence in their schools: May Day Coordinator, Attendance Monitor, Parent Helper; Homeroom Parent. Genny was summer home-teacher, requiring that her kids finish pages in their school activity books before they went outside to play. She was family chef – sandwiches and breakfasts for the grandkids to which Laura and Renée could not compare; Thanksgiving-type dinners on Football Sundays; food provider at any time of day or night, regardless of whether they were hungry. Genny vowed to be there for Wilfred for better or worse, and she took that vow very seriously. During Wilfred’s myriad hospital stays, Genny was Wilfred’s anchor, his comfort and his security. As Wife, Mom and Grandma, Genny was the guiding light of her family’s life, its heart and soul, and giver of unconditional love. She forever will be cherished and adored.
