Patricia Gehman

Patricia “Pat” Suzanne Gehman, 89, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend to many, a gifted artist and writer, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, with her daughter by her side. Pat was born on June 16, 1936, in Catonsville, Maryland, the daughter of Frank and Helen Siehler, and spent her last months at Brightview Rolling Hills Retirement Community, also in Catonsville. Brightview was a nurturing, beautiful place where Pat had many friends and caregivers who fell in love with her quick wit and dry sense of humor, but, also her soft, generous side which she couldn’t suppress. The love of art brought Pat and her now deceased husband Kenneth E. Gehman together when Pat worked for “Ken” at his commercial art studio in York, Pennsylvania. Early in their enduring marriage, they moved to Billings, Montana, seeking big skies, adventure, and a wholesome place to raise their daughter. Pat became a successful artist, painting hundreds of oil paintings, and watercolors. She published two books; “Perimeters,” a mystery novel, and “Thank You for Helping Us,” for the Bureau of Land Management, hoping to draw attention to the plight of the Pryor Mountain wild horses. Pat was one of the first to enlighten people about the horses, and her book undoubtedly inspired many readers to adopt. Saving the Pryor Mountain horses was just one of Pat’s passions involving animal rescue, and over her lifetime, Pat and Ken adopted many, needy dogs and, even a few horses. All were spoiled rotten! After many years in Montana, Pat and Ken returned to Pennsylvania to be near family. There, they lived in a quintessential, mountain top cottage nestled in the little town of Shunk, where they spent their happiest years painting, and sitting on their back porch looking out at the beautiful, green hills and forests. Pat is survived by her daughter, Lauren Alvarez and husband Stephen in Paris, France; her Grandson Andrew Alvarez, wife Shara and, their son Owen in Nuremburg, Germany; and her Granddaughter Amanda Thibeault, husband Brandon and their daughter Celeste in Portland, Oregon. Pat also has surviving siblings Joan Duckworth, Richard Siehler, Marc Siehler and deceased Frank Siehler. Pat’s greatest accomplishment, according to her daughter, was encouraging her to be a strong, independent woman but never hurt anybody’s feelings!
