Nancy Anne Hargett-Thomas

Nancy Hargett-Thomas was born on May 11, 1948, to the late Thomas (Buster) Richard Rawlings and Lucinda Simmons Rawlings in North Hampton County, North Carolina. She spent her adolescence and early adulthood in New York City. She later resided in Richmond, Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland. Nancy had six siblings, Marvin (Bougar) Loundie, Sr., (deceased), Thomas Rawlings, Jr., (deceased), Quincy Rawlings, (deceased), James Rawlings, Sr., (deceased), Arlene Ogletree (Robert), and Mildred Kee (deceased). Nancy received her primary education in North Hampton County, North Carolina public schools and completed her post education at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond, Virginia. One of Nancy’s favorite hobbies was sewing. Nancy learned how to sew from her mother, Lucinda Simmons Rawlings. Sewing was one of Nancy’s favorite things to do. Nancy was so good; she could design and sew a dress without a formal pattern. She once used a paper bag as a guide. Nancy excelled at sewing and her family loved that she could make clothes whenever they wanted her too. Cooking was another favorite activity of Nancy’s. She loved cooking for family and friends and was always known to invite family and friends to her home for a home-cooked meal. She was known for saying “Come and get it while it’s hot”. Nancy was a loving and caring mother who in union with her late husband, Samuel Hargett, Sr., birthed six beautiful children. Nancy is survived by her five children, Bruce Rawlings, Lawrence Walden, Celena Smith, Samuel Hargett, Jr., Timothy Hargett and Jonathan Hargett. Michael Hargett preceded his mother in death. Nancy is also survived by her devoted husband of twenty-six years, Jarvis Thomas; with whom she shared a parental love for his children, Victor Pressey, Ray Thomas, Randy Thomas, Roger Thomas, Ronald Thomas, Robin Riley, Raphiel Thomas, Dana Jackson, and Darshelle (Squeak) Manning. Nancy also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Nancy was a dedicated Jehovah’s Witnesses and bore a strong witness for Jehovah throughout her life until her passing. Nancy’s love for Jehovah was evident in how she lived her life and cared for others without any expectations in return. Nancy taught her children, her late husband, and her current husband about Jehovah. She dedicated her life to Jehovah and symbolized it by water baptismal at the 1970 “Men of Goodwill” district assembly in Brooklyn, New York. Nancy conducted numerous bible studies and was an auxiliary pioneer when health permitted. Nancy loved helping people get to know God’s name and his wonderful qualities. She would always say to her daughter, when speaking about someone’s else’s well-being was “your best being is your spiritual being”. Nancy is sleeping now and was comforted prior to her death in believing Jehovah’s promise of a resurrection and a paradise on earth. Nancy had faith in knowing there will be a time when there will be no more pain or death (Rev. 21:3,4, NW Translation, 2013)
