Lester Robert Williams

Our family and friends lost Lester R. Williams on August 1st, 2020 peacefully at home. He was survived by 3 sons Carl, Thomas, James, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our Pop-Pop, as we all knew him, was one of the most kind, loving ,caring, giving and honorable men we were so blessed to have. Its hard to put into words how much our Pop-Pop meant to so many people. He lived a very long fulfilling life. He is the true meaning of an American Hero. He spent 21 years active duty in the U.S. Army from May 11, 1946 through September 1, 1967. He served in Italy, Germany, Korea and Vietnam. This amazing veteran fought 3 wars for our country. While stationed overseas in Italy he met the love of his life, Marcella, who he married on September 13th, 1948. He was stationed in many different places before he finally settled in Maryland and spent another 20 years working on Fort Meade. He has seen and experienced more things than most people ever will experience in their entire lifetime. One thing he did best was tell stories. He is well known for all of his life experiences and he could always put a smile on anyone’s face and be the life of the party. So many people will miss his stories. It was always so fascinating hearing things he’s lived through. He was always so loving and attentive to all his own children, grandchildren and then his great grandchildren. I can’t even say enough about the type of man he was to so many people. Even after he lost his wife he still would make baked goodies to take to many places including banks, fast food restaurants, car repair shops and doctors offices, any place that treated him kind. He always wanted to give in any way to those total strangers that treated him nicely. He was a true giver from the heart. He would always give and help in anyway he could for anyone. We lost a wonderful, honorable true hero. He touched so many peoples lives and will be greatly missed by everyone. We hope he’s in peace living his happiest life with his dear wife that he’s missed so very much! We thought this poem was a perfect fit for our sweet Pop-Pop. "God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered 'Peace be thine.' It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home."
