Kevin Michael Cox

On July 24, 2024, Kevin Michael Cox, 60, of Halethorpe, MD passed away peacefully in hospice after battling health challenges for many years. Born April 24, 1964, the fourth of five children to Shirley (Stein) and Bernard Raymon Cox, Sr., Kevin spent his childhood in South Baltimore surrounded by friends and family. He had many fond memories of the antics he and his siblings shared, time with his many cousins, family holidays, and of taking trips in the family motorhome to visit friends and to hunt and fish in Colorado. Kevin graduated from Southern High School and then completed his AA degree before entering the police academy. He proudly served 16 years with the Maryland Transportation Authority Police before illness forced an early retirement. Kevin was very active in the community. As a young man he was a volunteer firefighter/EMT at English Consul VFD in Baltimore County. He volunteered as Hunter Education Safety Instructor with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Some of his fondest memories were the years Kevin volunteered for dog rescue, transporting dogs to safety, and playing the role of Santa Claus: he and his wife Sue fostered more than 70 German Shepherd Dogs, adopting a few “foster failures” along the way. Kevin was a member of Millington Lodge #166 AF & AM of Maryland, a founding member of All Shepherd Rescue, and a Life Member and former board member of Baltimore’s Police Emerald Society. He was honored to represent the Emerald Society as a Deputy Marshall in a past Baltimore St. Paddy’s Day Parade. As Kevin’s health declined, he remained active as a behind the scenes reporter for Anne Arundel First Alert. Kevin loved to travel and to spend time in the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and trips in the RV from Maine to Florida with Sue were some of his happiest memories. He was a loyal friend, generous with his time, and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. Kevin will be missed dearly. Kevin is survived by his wife Suzanne (Saccoccio) Cox, stepdaughter Kimberly Bowers, and grandson Gray Bowers. Kevin also leaves behind his siblings Bernard “Ray” Cox, Jr. (Colleen), David Cox (Kate), Bonnie Collins, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as his special aunt and godmother, Joyce Hunt. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Robin Cox. Per his wishes Kevin will be cremated and his ashes taken to Colorado where he had many fond memories of the outdoors and time with family. There will be a celebration of Kevin's life in the style of an Irish wake in the coming weeks. One of Kevin's greatest unmet wishes was to spend time with his grandson, Gray, sharing his love for the outdoors.
