Kenneth Wayne Lohorn

Kenneth Wayne Lohorn, born on Mother’s Day, May 8, 1955, died peacefully at home in his sleep on September 29, 2021. He was the very precious husband of over 45 years to Barbara Anne (nee Miller) Lohorn. They were high school sweethearts. He was also the beloved son of Margaret Theresa (nee Hatch) Lohorn and the late Howard Eugene Lohorn, Sr. He is survived by his daughter Katherine Marie and his son-in-law Matthews McGee. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Blair (nee Franke) Lohorn and Theresa Anne (nee Miller) Spliedt plus his brother-in-law, William Joseph Spliedt. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews (Tracy, Michael, Patrick, and Christina) as well as their spouses and children. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 10:00AM for all who wish to attend. Our Lady Queen of Peace is located ar 10003 Bird River Road, Baltimore, MD 21220. Ken was a great guy and was much loved by all who knew him. He will be forever missed and always remembered. Besides his devotion to his family, one lifelong interest was his Model A Ford, Henrietta. Purchased at the age of 14, Henrietta was Ken’s first car, and still owns today. He joined the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA) as a teenager and was active for many years with the Greater Baltimore Model A Ford Club (GBMARC or the Club), a local chapter of the Model A Restorers Club of America (MARC). One favorite memory was restoring Henriette so that Ken could drive it to Archbishop Keough High School’s Senior Prom in May 1974. He drove Henrietta from Pasadena to Arbutus beforehand, parking it in the Miller driveway. After the prom, heard that Granddaddy Miller (who worked as a part-time mechanic repairing Model A Fords during the 1930’s), quietly behind the scene, climbed all over the car to make sure it was safe for his granddaughter to ride in. Ken drove the car from Arbutus to Hunt Valley via the Beltway. That was a night to remember. Around 1999/2000, Ken also built a Model A from pieces. Frame, metal, wood, engine, steering column, radiator, gas tank, windows, seats, etc., all came from different places. Do you know how many different parts there are in a car? He assembled the parts without a blueprint or factory manual into what is known as a 1930 Model A Ford Huckster, which we still own. Ken liked to think of the Huckster as a car the Miller Family could have driven during the Depression, perhaps selling bakery products to make ends meet. He drove the Huckster for several years. Caught the batter on fire, burnt his hand, attended the Club’s picnic that day, and won the Club’s annual Dahlinger award as a result. Getting a title from the MVA on a car that didn’t exist until Ken built it, was interesting. Had trouble making the clerk believe a 1930 Ford car had no mileage. Donations in Ken’s memory can be made to Model A Ford Foundation, Inc. (MAFFI) in Dearborn, Michigan. Its mission to preserve the heritage and history of the Model A. Ken was also a Grand Knight in one of the Knights of Columbus’s council and received a lifetime membership. He was also active for many years in the Maryland Sign Council Association. He believed in preserving the environment and makes regular donations to the Arbor Day Foundation. A fitting memory to Ken would be to plant a tree in his honor, any tree, anywhere, dedicate it to Ken, nurture it, watch to grow, and think kind thoughts of Ken whenever you see the tree.
