John Matthew Barry, 54, of Annapolis, Maryland, peacefully departed on October 30, 2023, surrounded by an outpouring of love. He fought a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed in June 2023, giving everything he had until the end. His radiant spirit will be cherished forever by those whose lives he touched. Born on August 10, 1969, in Orange, California, Matt brought joy and liveliness to his family and friends. He was a beacon of inspiration, living by his personal values of kindness, thoughtfulness, humor, and compassion. His adventurous soul and zest for life left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Matt’s legacy of love and devotion endures through his beloved wife, Bria, and their cherished daughters, Charlotte and Eloise, who held the key to his heart. His loyal canine companion, Raylan, brought him joy and comfort and many laughs. Matt’s passing is deeply mourned by his parents, John and Nancy, and siblings, Cate and Patrick. Educated at North Carroll High School, Matt excelled in varsity soccer and lacrosse and was a standout in performances by the North Carroll Ensemble. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for two peacetime years before pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Towson University. In his young adulthood, Matt shared his warmth and wisdom with patrons of Heroes Pub, where he met many of his local Annapolis friends while serving up pints along with his infectious smile. Professionally, Matt was the esteemed owner of Chesapeake U-Brew and Happy-Pet LLC. With great entrepreneurial spirit, he built a strong reputation based on his exceptional work ethic and caring approach to clients. Matt found solace and camaraderie at the First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, where he reconnected with his spiritual journey. He delighted in sharing his love for life through song, captivating any listening ear with his beautiful, baritone voice. His daughters particularly enjoyed singing along with him on car rides and while making pancake breakfasts on the weekends. In his personal life, Matt reveled in the simple joys of hiking, embarking on daddy adventures, cheering on the Ravens, and soaking up live music performances. These moments, especially those with his beloved daughters, held such a special place in his heart. A private service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, where he will have a columbarium niche. A public celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In honor of Matt’s compassionate spirit, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Wellness House of Annapolis or the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, both of which were causes he held dear. The family is receiving compassionate assistance with funeral arrangements from Simplicity Cremation & Funeral Services in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Matt’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and the beauty one can find in everyday moments. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he graced, especially those with cold, wet noses.
