GENE FRANCIS MORRIS, 70 June 25, 1954-April 22,2025 Known to family and friends as Joey, he was born at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda Maryland, to his parents Frank Louis Morris and Irma Jean Hall (Lamot), who have preceded him in death. Joey passed away peacefully at Gilchrist Hospice Center of Howard County in Columbia, Maryland on April 22, 2025. Joey lived in Maryland in his younger years but had resided in Fort Myers Beach Florida since the early 1990s. He was a hard physical worker for many years. He worked installing flooring, construction work and HVAC. For many years he enjoyed bowling in leagues, serving in the American Legion, the beach, warm weather, and always loved having a tan. He was also a lover of animals, having cared for many cats and dogs over the years. He returned to Maryland after a devastating storm in October of 2022, residing with each of his daughters, Stefanie and Stacy, for a portion of time. Being a supporter of the US military, Joey was very proud of his oldest grandson, Caleb J. Pape (Stacy), for serving in the US Navy. When living in Maryland again, with Stacy, Joey spent some time at the bowling alley watching his grandson Daniel bowling in a youth league, and giving him pointers. He also got to see his other grandsons, Luke and Samuel playing baseball and was very proud of all four grandsons. While residing with his daughter Stefanie, in Riva, MD, Joey got to experience a little bit of the beach again, spending time with Stefanie and her dog Kiya. Joey also spent time in Maryland reuniting with his son Frank and daughter in law Cyndi. He spent some time with other family as well and was able to visit with his mother before her recent passing (March 29, 2025) Joey was also recently reunited with his son Paul, meeting him for the first time in 2024. He was supported and loved near the end of his life by all of his children. Joey is survived by his children Frank (Cyndi), Stefanie, Stacy and Paul (Rebecca), several grandchildren, Jenna, Paige, Crystal, (Frank) Caleb, Daniel, Luke, Samuel (Stacy), Jenna, Brianna (Paul) and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by his five siblings, John Morris (Debbie), James Morris (Kathy), Patrick Morris (Pam), Patricia DeGraff (Duane) and Melissa Wilson (Justin) and many nieces and nephews. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. -Psalm 34:18 There will not be a funeral service, however a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
