Ethelyn Dorothy Molander

Baltimore, Maryland – Ethelyn Dorothy Beatrice (Smith) Molander, 94, passed away on October 11, 2020 at The Village at Augsburg in Baltimore, MD. Her husband of 67 years, Donald Nelson Molander, predeceased her on December 18, 2017. Born on August 31, 1926 in Norwell, Massachusetts, Ethelyn was the daughter of the late Frederick Smith and Jessie (Brewer) Smith, sister of the late William Smith of Hanover, MA and half-sister to the late Beatrice Smith of Sarasota, FL and the late Frederick Smith of Hanover, MA. She was a 1944 graduate of Norwell High School. Ethelyn was beloved by her family; her daughter the late Donalyn Spada and her husband James of New Milford, CT, her son John (Moe) and his wife Carol of Marion, MA, her daughter Laurie Faklis and her husband Nicholas of Palos Park, IL, her son William (Bill) and his wife Lori of Lexington, NC and her daughter Mia (Karen) Burch and her husband Greg of New Milford, CT. She was a devoted grandmother to seventeen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and a loving aunt to a niece and three nephews. Ethelyn and Donald raised their five children in North Easton, MA. They spent many summers at their “camp” in Carver, MA. They moved to Carol Stream, IL, then to Millersville, MD, where they spent the next thirty years, and became residents at The Village at Augsburg in Baltimore thirteen years ago. Ethelyn was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Easton, MA, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in West Chicago, IL, and Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millersville, MD. She enjoyed volunteering at church events, knitting, baking, gardening, reading, writing lovely notes to family and friends in her beautiful penmanship, traveling, and visiting with her many friends who affectionately called her by her nickname “Tootsie”. “Toots” was a magical presence who spent her life focused on making sure everyone she had contact with felt her gratitude and love. She found many ways to meaningfully touch family members and friends and will be fondly remembered by all. Interment will be private at Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD alongside her loving husband. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ethelyn’s memory may be made to The Village at Augsburg 6811 Campfield Road, Baltimore, MD 21207.
