The Life and Legacy Of Doris Elaine Larmore “Life has a single beginning but a multiplicity of endings. We do not know the day, the hour, the minute, or the way of departure; nor do we know the mystery in the works of God Almighty, who is too just and knowledgeable to make mistakes with His own creation.” II Corinthians reminds us that, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Doris Elaine Larmore, daughter of the late Robert Walter Larmore and Laura Anna Winder Larmore was born on July 19, 1947 in Laurel, Delaware. On Resurrection Sunday morning, April 12, 2020, God in His Infinite Wisdom dispatched the Heavenly Angels and transitioned Doris Elaine through the gates of Eternal and New Life with Christ Jesus in Heaven. Educated in the public schools of Wicomico County, Maryland, Doris Elaine was a graduate of Salisbury High School. After completing her formal high school education in 1965, She also completed studies at Salisbury University and other institutions of higher learning. Reared in a Christian family, Doris Elaine was taught the Word of God and accepted the Lord as her Savior. She was a member of Saint Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in Salisbury, MD and enjoyed fellowshipping at Sunday services, church anniversaries, and special programs. On Friday, April 10, just one day and a few hours before her passing, she had the nurse from the hospital to call her daughter, Londa. During that call, Doris Elaine asked her daughter to play the song, “I will be Alright,” by the Rev. F.C. Barnes. She listened to the song in its entirety and her final words, “Londa, I will be Alright, Love you.” It was then evident that Doris Elaine had made her peace with God and was ready for her transition. Doris Elaine was a very intelligent, inquisitive and knowledgeable person. She was always active with learning and had a thirst for knowledge about a variety of subjects (religion, law, education, medicine, etc.) She had so much extensive knowledge and “know how” about life journey and was able to effectively counsel many through their personal challenges and hardships. Doris Elaine was considered a genuine person who seemed to have never met a stranger in her life. She enjoyed meeting people and building friendships and relationships that would last forever. Doris Elaine was a family warrior who believed in the love of family and for all to be treated fairly. She had no respect of persons in her family; she loved them all. She enjoyed all the family gatherings and events and loved spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews and special friends. Doris Elaine was a true giver from her heart and she gave whatever she could financially to support her children, grandchildren and others. Destined for greatness in life, Doris Elaine always strived to be the best role model for her children and grandchildren. She modeled high expectations and advocated for education for those in her family and community. She wanted the best for everyone. She was especially proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and who they had become in their respective professions. Doris Elaine was always “bragging” and sharing the good news about her son and daughters and how they were now successful and productive citizens. She was also proud of the fact that they now had much to contribute to the society and that she had done her job rearing them. Doris Elaine was a lover of life – she enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling, creating large portrait puzzles, shopping online with QVC (especially for shoes), and watching her special MSNBC news anchors. She was a die-hard sports fan of the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Lakers. She loved the black and gold and was always ready to wave her “dirty towel” to cheer for her team on NFL Football Sundays. Doris Elaine was a very classy and elegant woman. She loved to “dress to impress” and she made sure that her outfits were matching her shoes. Her nails and hair were immaculately done and she was intentional about staying on schedule to have them done on a regular basis, even while she was a temporary resident of the nursing home. Doris’ favorite color was “red.” She loved everything in red – shoes, clothes, nails, hair, microwave, utensils, toaster oven – everything had to be red. She truly was a beautiful woman who was loved by so many and will be missed by all. The tapestry of Doris Elaine’s life portrays her beauty and elegance as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, close relative and friend. To forever carry on her love and memories: her loving and dedicated children, Londa K. James (Herman Chris) of Cheltenham, MD; Vonda S. Larmore of Panama City, FL; and Cleveland A. Murphy, Jr. (Tawauna) of Waldorf, MD; five grandchildren, Ania L. Craig (David), Andrew Logan Evans (Raven), Alexa L. Evans (Philippe Pierre-Antoine, Jr.), Dasia Murphy and Mekhi W. Murphy; one great grandchild, Skylar Vanae Smith; four sisters, Pearl Ellen Teagle and Anna Marie Warren (Gary, Sr.), both of Salisbury, MD, Barbara Ann Larmore of Baltimore, MD and Olive Conway of Dale City, VA; one brother, Robert Larmore, Jr. of Graniteville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends ~ all who loved her dearly. When My Savior Brings Me Home As my days on earth have ended and my time has finally come, Don’t think I’ve left you; just rejoice that my battle is finally won! It was in those quiet hours when I seemed so far away That my Savior sat beside me to prepare me for this day He settled all my doubts and fears and took away the pain Please know there was no suffering when at last my Savior came! To you, it may have seemed too hard and lasted much too long, But for me, it was a peaceful wait for God to bring me home! I know that you did all you could and yes, He heard your cries For God Himself reached out His hand and gently closed my eyes!
