Deborah Anne Uhlik

It is with great sadness that we share our mom, Debbie Uhlik, has passed away. Her story is one of resilience, not suffering. She endured unimaginable odds and after each hospital stay would call her best friend, Ms. Marcelle, and say, “they thought they got me this time, Marce! Not ready to die yet!” This last hospital stay was different. Her spirit continued to fight, but her body had finally decided it was time to rest. It matters to her that you not only remember her fight to stay here these last six years, but her commitment to living life to its fullest all the 75 years this earth was blessed to have her. She was witty, creative, loved bright clothing (we all remember the Dalmatian pants and elephant sweater, right?), fiercely loyal, and bold. Our mom loved going out to eat and buying totally impractical things like, rhinestone Birkenstocks. She was the life of any party, hence her clear directions of , “No funeral. I want to celebrate.” She was a force of nature as a mother, wife, sister, and friend. She proudly served in the field of special education for over 20 years after spending many years at home raising her babies. Our mom is survived by many who loved her dearly, including her daughter Mauria (Mo) and her husband Dave as well as her son, Ryan, and his fiancé Heather. One the greatest highlights of her life was being a Mimi to her grandsons, Jaxson and Cooper. She ordered way too many presents from Amazon and loved teaching them games we played growing up, like card games and puzzles. They also knew if there was a Hallmark movie on, they’d get to share Reese’s cups and Otterbein cookies with Mimi while watching it. She was proceeded in death by our dad, Thomas Uhlik, her sister, Michelle Maskell, and mother, Marie Cervin. Words fail to accurately capture the essence of the person who shaped our being into who we are today. Navigating this world without her is painfully difficult. We take respite in knowing she’s merely a whisper away for encouragement. Her fighting spirit lives on in us. And to our Mom, we hope that Dad, Mom-Mom, and Aunt Shelly were there to greet you when you arrived to Heaven. We thank you, Mommy, for giving us the gift of you. Until we see you again.
