Cynthia May Dawson

Cynthia May Allen Dawson was born into a military family on 24 May 1947, in Providence, Rhode Island, her father William Allen was in the Navy, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. She and her mother, Stella Allen, and her older brother, William Allen, Jr., lived up and down the East Coast before her father was finally transferred to Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois. After graduating high school in Libertyville, IL she met and later married Frank Dawson in 1969. They were married for 26 years and had two children, Kristine (Michael) Dawson-Price and Andrew (Jade) Dawson. She and Frank moved to Texas in the mid-1980’s where they lived in Beaumont and Houston for many years. She moved to Maryland at the turn of the millennium. She eventually settled in Glen Burnie and then lived in Hyattsville Maryland. She finished her career as a medical transcriptionist after working for several area hospitals. She loved traveling and was an avid student of history, especially ancient Egypt and Rome as well as WWII. She was very fond of art and had talent of her own, particularly watercolors of still-life’s and landscapes as well as a gift for sketching faces. While her daughter was stationed in Germany at Ramstein Air Base, Cindy was able to spend many months traveling Europe with her daughter seeing and experiencing many of the people, places and things she loved. Cindy was a people person. She loved striking up conversations with anyone, no matter where or even what country she was in. She was quick with a smile and a laugh, loved singing her children to sleep with lullabies from movies and musicals. She had a great sense of humor and was kind to animals. She also loved gardening and spending time outdoors, hiking along wooded trails or just enjoying the sun on her face while at the beach. She loved going to the movie theater to “go see the show”. She was a fan of science fiction, horror, musicals, and satiric comedy. She loved the Terminator series and was a Trekkie. She was a fan of music of all kinds, from classical to the newest song her granddaughter would sing along to with her on the radio. Cindy’s long awaited grandchild, Elizabeth Price, finally arrived in 2013. Cindy was so happy to finally be a Grandma and cherished every moment she had with her. Cynthia passed on 25 May 2020, aged 73, after battling COVID-19. She is preceded in death by her father and brother. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
