Catherine Virginia Depp

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Catherine “Cathy” Virginia Depp at her home on July 8, 2026. She was the heart and soul of her family, known for her compassion and creativity. Born in 1943, Cathy was the second youngest of six siblings. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School and went on to study design. During this time, she worked in a hardware store where she met her beloved husband of 62 years, Robert James Depp (now deceased). They moved to Maryland where they became one of the “pioneer” families of Columbia and raised three children, all girls. Demonstrating her trust in God, joy in life, and zest for adventure, the family spent a few years living in Frankfurt, Germany and exploring Europe. Cathy will be remembered in many ways. She loved God. She lived her 83 years with an unwavering faith. She enjoyed teaching God’s faith as a Sunday School Teacher. She also loved to sew. She proudly wore many of her beautiful handmade clothes, including her wedding gown. With every stitch, she taught her students to sew with love and care. We loved her baking. We still marvel over her plentiful Christmas table, filled with cookies, pies, tarts, and apple tea rings. Her love of gardening was evident in the bountiful fruits and vegetables that she planted and grew. Most homemade meals included some ingredients that were harvested in their backyard. Cathy was ahead of her time. She led a healthy lifestyle before it was popular. Some of the homeopathic “teas” that we teased her for brewing, now appear on grocery shelves. Cathy is survived by her children, Linda (Marshall), Beverly (Bruce), and Marianne (Adam); her eight grandchildren, and her brother, Joseph (Cindy). Cathy had many gifts. She was an artist with a gifted eye. She had a talent for sewing, cooking and baking. Most of all, she had a smile that filled our hearts with her love. We know she now sits with God and all those that predeceased her including her parents, her spouse, her brother, and her sisters. A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held on July 23 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Avenue South, Millersville, MD 21108. A reception will follow at the church.
