Carolyn Joyce Butler

On September 4, 2023 the Lord called to rest one of his faithful servants, Carolyn Joyce Butler, born January 27, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland. Carolyn was the oldest child of Robert ‘Doc’ Butler and Mary Anderson(Butler). She attended Dunbar High School and graduated in 1969. After completing high school, Carolyn worked in the healthcare industry for several years at Stella Maris before accepting a job with the Social Security Administration located in Baltimore, Maryland which is where she retired. Carolyn accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at Southern Baptist Church, were she also served as The Director of the Boys Scout Unit. Carolyn was a faithful member of New Zion Hill Baptist Church. Carolyn was always surrounded by family and friends. She loved deeply and was there for many people during their ups and downs. Her recipe for fixing problems was good food especially her fried chicken, laughter and prayer. Carolyn provided those she loved with unlimited love, comfort, hospitality, humor and if needed stability. Although Carolyn loved being around family and friends, she also enjoyed traveling. She was always on the move and ready for the next trip. Some of her legendary travels included cruises, Mother’s Day Crab Festivals, and Myrtle Beach bus trips during the summer. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, best friend Rosiland 'Rosie' Jennings and close long-time friend Catherine 'cathy' Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories; her son Craig Butler (Rosetta Butler); her daughter Carol Butler; two siblings, Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Buckson and Robert ‘Bobby’ Butler; one foster sister Angela 'Angie' Parker; six grandchildren, Shawntrice Butler, Ja’Niyah McCrea, Ravin McCrea, Shamar Campbell, Meelah Green and Amari Green; two nieces, Tieara Stith and Nichole Butler; great nieces Leah Johnson and Nikayah Overton; great nephews Elijah ‘EJ’ Johnson and Martise Williams; father of her children Oscar ‘OJ’ Moore; sister in love Marcella Robertson; a host of relatives and friends. The service will be held at: Pathway Fellowship FMC, 3441 Keswick Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21211. The memorial service will be held on September 22, 2023 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately after the Memorial Service.
