Carole Sue White

Carole Sue White, 85, of Pasadena, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on July 3, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on Friday, December 13, 1940, in Washington, DC, Carole (Sue) was the beloved wife of Charles William White (Bud) for nearly 67 years. Their extraordinary love story began in childhood, when Sue became best friends with Bud’s sister, Alene. A spirited young woman, Sue famously hit Bud over the head with an oar—after which he saw her in a whole new light, and their romance blossomed. At just 18, Sue was tasked with selling her parents’ home and belongings in Maryland when they unexpectedly had to move to the Mojave Desert to save their youngest child, Candace, who was suffering from very severe allergies. After the sale, Sue and Bud followed her parents to the Mojave Desert, and Alene joined them later as the three embarked on a grand adventure. Bud and Sue married on September 20 in Las Vegas, beginning a lifetime of deep love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. A woman of remarkable kindness and intelligence, Sue never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was truly an angel on earth—super kind, amazingly smart, and always taking the high road—and she taught her children to do the same. Sue was extremely proud of her 38 years of distinguished service with the Federal Government, working for the US Marine Corps, US Army, US Coast Guard, and US Social Security Administration. She retired as Chief of Procurement for the US Coast Guard in Curtis Bay, Maryland. Bud and Sue were each other’s true love and best friend. Together, they taught their children what a good relationship looks like, what commitment means, and how to love without bounds. Their example of honesty, treating others with respect, and choosing kindness will live on in their family forever. Sue is survived by her devoted husband, Charles (Bud) William White; her children, Lisa M. Gesser (White) and husband Edward, Charles W. White and wife Jaqui, Daniel J. White and wife Brenda, and Scott A. White and wife Stacey; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and her sister, Candace Thatcher (Haney), and husband Rex. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary L. Haney (Moore) and William S. Haney, and her brother, William Haney. In accordance with her wishes, Sue was cremated privately with no public funeral services. While she will be missed enormously, her family finds comfort in their memories of her, in the countless lessons she taught them, and in the enduring love she shared with Bud, her hero, and with all of them.
