Carol Colby Golding

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Carol Lynn Colby Golding. Carol passed away peacefully on December 11, 2022 after a long journey with Alzheimers. Carol was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 17, 1947, to parents Henry Gardner and Carolyn Lewis Colby. She lived in many places including Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Texas, and West Virginia. She also visited many states traveling all over the United States with her husband John. Carol married her husband John in 1968. Together they raised three children Jenny, John, and Katie. Carol extended her love to her children’s partners George (Jenny), Connie (John), and Rudy (Katie). She was known as Mimi to her beloved grandchildren, Rocco, Bella, Ethan, Colby, George, Jackson, Kendall, and Emerson. Carol was also cherished by her siblings Dr. Sarah Colby, the late Hank Colby, and the late Jane Kirkendoll. Many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews remember her as well. Carol loved her dog, Jeb, who was almost always at her feet and by her side. Carol was one of the friendliest people you would meet. Quick to say hello to a stranger and strike up a conversation, she’d always have something to share, whether in the grocery store or on the roadside in Yellowstone, where she would frequently visit her daughter Jenny. She was a natural teacher, and made teaching elementary school her profession for forty years! Carol loved the outdoors, and took the family camping almost every summer when the kids were little, often to the Great Smokies. Carol loved to take long drives with John looking at the trees, pretty scenery, and horses. She LOVED trees, which was her first word. You couldn’t take her anywhere without her saying, “look at the trees!” Carol also enjoyed music and was always singing old girl scout songs and 60’s folk songs. There will be a celebration of Carol’s life with immediate family members. She was loved by so many! While we can’t be together with all who loved her, we invite you to please help us celebrate Carol’s life by sharing a memory, send condolences, or plant a tree in Carol’s name here on her tribute wall. Alzheimer's is a degenerative brain disease that slowly steals our loved ones from us.
