Anthony Hee Choe

Anthony (Tony) Hee Choe, 49, beloved husband of Ashley EunJu Choe and father of Adrienne Miri Choe, and devoted son of Mr. and Mrs. Choe of Torrance, CA, passed away peacefully on May 31st, 2023 in Rockville, MD, after one year battling the complications of a series of strokes and end stage renal failure. Tony was born on July 13th, 1973 in Detroit, Michigan, but grew up in California since he was three. He attended West High School in Torrance, CA, where he excelled in academics, ran track and played in the marching band. Tony attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, graduating in 1995, majoring in both History and Genetics. While there, he pursued his varied interests and talents, and made many lifelong friends, as a leading member of Dartmouth's Asian Organization, Band, Outing Club, and acapella group, the Dodecaphonics (his solos are that of legend). Tony later earned his Masters of Public Health from Columbia University in New York City in 1997, and his JD law degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. Tony and Ashley married in 2005, and later moved to the Washington, DC area, where he worked as an attorney specializing in health care law, most recently at Inovalon. Giving back to his community was a high priority, with Tony mentoring students and volunteering at legal clinics. Of his many passions, his greatest was being with his family, Ashley and Adrienne – traveling domestically and abroad with them as well as with high school and college friends. Tony took great pride in being able to speak about any topic, from history to politics, to sports and movies. He was a “lovable nerd” who consumed all types of news and trivia, often quoting lines from Star Wars and Star Trek. To his friends and colleagues, he was the “glue” that bound them together – by texting birthday reminders to the group or sharing embarrassing photos from earlier years. And Tony was always the “rock” to rely on - by boarding a plane and flying to a friend in need, or offering his ear to listen and shoulder to cry on. The world became better when Tony entered it. He is deeply loved and sorely missed by those who knew him. Funeral services will be held later this summer in Los Angeles, CA, and he will finally rest in Green Hills Memorial Park in Ranchos Palos Verde, CA.
