Aileen Margaret Lehew

Aileen Margaret Lehew (née Fick) was called forth on June 15, 2026 at the age of 78. She often said, “When the Good Lord calls you forth, he doesn’t mean fifth”. Aileen attended the Catholic High School in Baltimore City where she graduated in 1965. From there she became a telephone operator for the University of Maryland and, later, Johns Hopkins. During her time as an operator–among her many other responsibilities–she answered calls from family members and loved ones during their periods of crisis. She greeted the individuals on the phone with compassion and kindness, working diligently to get that individual in contact with whoever they needed to reach, often going above and beyond to make sure their needs were met. She also loved her coworkers. They looked out for each other and it wasn’t uncommon for her to treat the entire office to lunch or pick up short shifts. She would also recount stories of office antics to family and friends. Aileen was affectionately known by those who loved her as Mom Ail. She loved the people in her life deeply. It didn’t matter if they were her biological children or just someone who needed a little extra love or help. She would take them in, take them under her wing, and love them as her own, people and animals alike. She loved them all. Pets were a mainstay in her home, and her love and passion for caring for anything that needed it led to her owning several unique pets, including a skunk named Pepe Lehew, a monkey named Jocko, and a raccoon named Rachel (who drank Coca Cola straight from the bottle). You can only imagine the funny stories that would ensue. She filled her home with laughter and love and had a knack for making everyone she met feel welcomed and loved with her warm disposition. There was nothing she wouldn’t do or give for someone she loved. To know her was to love her. She also loved Jesus and, if asked, would say her best advice was to pray about it. Aileen was born to the late Earl and Aileen Fick. She is preceded by her late husband–and the love of her life–Arthur Lehew, son Michael Fick Sr, brothers Kenneth James Fick and Raymond Lesley Fick, nephew Brian Poremski, and grandsons Stephen Bradley Fick and Charles Lehew Jr. She is survived by her children Arthur Lehew Jr, Charles Lehew Sr, and Marie Walker, her sister-in-law Debbie Davis, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A celebration of life for Aileen and Arthur will be held at a later date, details forthcoming.
